My zero waste journey began a year and a half ago. I was still dealing with acne as a grown ass woman and couldn’t figure out why.
At my wit’s end and after trying most acne products on the market, I opted changing the plastic packaged chemical products I put on my face daily (Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, etc.) for homemade washes and lotions.
Making everything at home took time and energy, but the difference was incredible, and too good to be true.
I then started making everything from home- toothpaste, hand soap, deodorant, hair products, even make-up. Although I still have scars, my skin has completely cleared up since then!
Then I heard of Trash is for Tossers zero waste lifestyle. Four years of her trash fits into a single mason jar. I learned that every piece of plastic ever created thus far still exists. You can only recycle plastic a few times before it breaks down. Once plastic finally composes thousands of years later, the breakdown is into billions of particles that render soil and water toxic.
I feel so small and helpless when I hear these things, but one person makes such a difference. For real.
Fast forward to now. I have phased out using plastic for the most part- I’m still working on it and need improvement. So far, living low-waste means buying my food in bulk and without packaging, storing dry goods in glass jars, only buying what I need, and opting for products made of compostable, renewable material rather than plastic. As a result, I eat way healthier now (probably helping the skin issue too) and feel less like a shitty garbage human being. It’s a great thing. I recommend it 10/10.
All of these little things add up- toothbrushes, body products, grocery bags, food containers, straws, and coffee cups.
Coffee Cups. 100 billion end up in landfills each 👏🏼 YEAR 👏🏼 I drink a lot of coffee, so having a coffee cup made out of something that’s not single use plastic and that I can reuse and take to a coffee shop is a game changer. Start one change at a time. The difference adds up so do your part to #stopthe100billion
Shout out to Ecoffee Cup for their bamboo fiber cup that I will use 5ever. If any one wants to talk zero waste with me or has questions, holla at your girl. And if you’re still reading this, thanks for letting me rant and God love ya. Go make a difference.
